Description :

The revised Troubleshooting training has been augmented from the past version. This training has a duration of 16 hours (2 days x 8h). Background knowledge is provided as well as case studies to solve as teams on the subjects listed below are part of the training.

Day 1 :

  1. Plastic concrete
    • Properties of plastic concrete
    • Associated quality control test methods
    • Parameters that impact the properties of plastic concrete
    • How to recognise defects and correct them
    • Case study – Teamwork
  2. Properties of hardened concrete
    • Properties of hardened concrete
    • Associated quality control test methods
    • Parameters that impact the properties of hardened concrete (mainly compressive strength)
    • How to recognise defects and correct them
    • Case study – Teamwork
  3. Construction site considerations
    • Pre-construction/concreting meeting and field trial pours

    • Cracking
    • Context and definitions
    • Structural cracks
    • Shrinkage cracks
    • Cracks due to concrete pathologies - Durability
    • Cracks happening in the short term
    • Cracks happening in the long term
    • How to control cracking
    • Horizontal surface defects
    • Formed surface defects
    • Case study – Teamwork
  2. Assessment test methods
    • Non-destructive testing in both laboratory and construction site
      • Standard reference
      • Test description
      • Precautions
    • Rebar locating methods
    • Destructive testing in both laboratory and construction site
      • Standard reference
      • Test description
      • Precautions
    • Advocated methods according to the objective
    • Case study – Teamwork

Notes :

- A general knowledge quiz is proposed to participants at the beginning of the training to evaluate and adapt the training content
- Concrete technology training of ABQ (Quebec Concrete Producers association) is recommended, but not mandatory before registering to the training.
- The present training deals with construction site problems often encountered, their causes and possible solutions, based on advanced concrete knowledge. The training includes also the presentation of several test methods, on plastic and hardened concrete to adequately characterize the concrete in question in the construction site’s conditions.
- A training attestation showing the hours attended will be provided at the end of the training (for professional’s associations yearly/bi-annual training required, e.g. OIQ)
- A minimum of 15 people is required so that the training is offered but a maximum of 35 people is however allowed per session to allow better interaction with speakers.
